A Good Word Wednesday #102 Freedom
A little bit of help, hope and goodness for you each Wednesday 🎆🗽🦅
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” Proverbs 12:25
Good Word of the Day: Freedom
Tomorrow we celebrate freedom in our nation. I think of… The Lincoln Memorial… The Washington Monument… The Liberty Bell… Independence Hall… The Statue of Liberty. Monuments to freedom. All of them. I’ve seen these and many more symbols of American freedom. They made an impact on me and continually remind me of the cost of freedom. And the privilege and responsibility of freedom.
Which monuments to freedom have made the biggest impression on you? Why?
Freedom. It’s a lofty word we normally take for granted. But I know those who don’t, such as:
The Colored people group of the Northern Cape in South Africa that I met and served with years ago in that beautiful country. They are of mixed race and not claimed by anyone. They know when they meet Jesus, that they are seen, known and loved. And that they are free indeed.
The little girls in Sumatra, Indonesia who were brutally raped and left for dead. But they were rescued by loving and kind women that She Is Safe partners with.
A young woman on a southeast Asian island who is HIV+ but was rescued from a life of prostitution.
It seems to me that people who name the name of Christ should be the first ones to speak up for freedom for all people… regardless of skin color.. regardless of location… because we know the truth. “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32.
So today… Celebrate freedom. Share the truth. Demonstrate love.
How are you celebrating freedom in our nation? In your relationship with Christ?
Wednesday in the Word
“For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

Good Unseen People
I wrote the following for Stories for Global Good and posted it a few years ago:
Through the years, I’ve learned much about cultures and the way culture shapes people. I’ve grown to see how fear and power and control cause wars, and death and limits freedom and the basic rights of humanity. Perhaps that is why I made sure my children were exposed to different cultures and people to help them understand that God made all people equally. All of value. All important.

Good Words I Recommend
A Good Song/Video: Found my freedom
A Good Book: Read Galatians in your New Testament to discover the Apostle Paul’s insight into Christian Freedom
Another Good Book: The Freedom of Self Forgetfulness by Tim Keller
A Final Good Word
I love the American Sign Language sign for freedom. Place your arms across your chest like an “X” and then swing them open with your hands lifted up. Try it. Sign language FREE. It is a visual of breaking the chains of slavery.
Freedom. We cherish our freedom as Americans. We remember and celebrate this week as we should.
But as Christians, our freedom has such a deeper context and meaning. It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. What does that really mean? I recommend that you discover this truth for yourself. But the short answer is, because Christ paid our sin debt for us on the cross, He set us free from the bondage of sin. Free at last. Free indeed.
Thank you for reading these words. I’m deeply honored to share this time with you each week.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: “Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.” Jeremiah 30:2
Gratefully yours,
