Good Word of the Day: Foundation
Right now, people from Houston and further north are reeling from the impact of Hurricane Beryl. Their homes were swept away from the very foundation on which they were built.
I was feeling sorry for ourselves in our home last week when we had some damage to our roof from high winds and excessive hard rain. But it’s nothing like losing your entire home. I can’t even imagine. What do you do when your very foundation is shaken?
In contrast, my son is having a new home built for his family. It’s been so exciting to watch the house emerge up from the land, from the foundation and now up to the frame and walls. It’s a forever home for them that began with the laying of a solid foundation.
As believers, we know that even when our world around us is crumbling and even parts of it swept away by the storms that wreak havoc on us, our foundation is Christ alone.
I love the hymn “How Firm a Foundation.” And I love singing the new song with the same themes - “Jesus is my firm foundation… the rock on which I stand…. “The link to the song is included below. Also, do you remember the children’s song about “the wise man built his house upon the rock…. the rains came down and the floods came up but the house on the rock stood firm.” (video link below.)
Has your foundation ever been shaken? What did you do?
Wednesday in the Word
“By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” 1 Corinthians 3:10-11
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Matthew 7:24
Therefore thus says the Lord God, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’” Isaiah 28:16

Good Unseen People
I wrote the following for Stories for Global Good and posted it a few years ago:
The point is, so are we. As believers in Jesus, we know we live in a world that will not be our forever home. Thank goodness. While we are thankful for the abundance he has blessed us with now, we know there is more. There is a holy habitation in heaven where we get to be with Him always, and with all the people in our lives who are already there enjoying Him.
What a day that will be. Absolutely no place like home. Hope to see you there.

A Final Good Word
I know we don’t speak in “thee’s” and “thous” anymore. But it just doesn’t get any better than this hymn. Read or sing along and remember it when your foundation feels shaky:
1 How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
is laid for your faith in God's excellent Word!
What more can be said than to you God hath said,
to you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?
2 "Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
for I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I'll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
upheld by my righteous, omnipotent hand.
3 "When through the deep waters I call thee to go,
the rivers of sorrow shall not overflow;
for I will be near thee, thy troubles to bless,
and sanctify to thee thy deepest distress.
4 "When through fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
my grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
the flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.
5 "The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to its foes;
that soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I'll never, no, never, no, never forsake."
Thank you for reading these words. I’m deeply honored to share this time with you each week.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: “Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.” Jeremiah 30:2
Gratefully yours,
Thank you for your good words, Amber. He is absolutely good and faithful. We see Him most in times of turmoil. Nothing like the peace he brings in the midst of pain.
Definitely had seasons where I found myself facing the anguish of pain and suffering. I remember all I could do at my child's bedside was to stroke her hand and whisper, "God is good. God is faithful."
