A Good Word Wednesday #115 SPEAK 💬
A little bit of help, hope and goodness for you each Wednesday
“Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.” Proverbs 12:25
GOOD WORD OF THE DAY: Speak
Words are powerful. They can offer hope. Or correction. Or inflict pain.
If given the choice, I would rather write the words than speak them any day. These days, we have so much written content we can access via the internet through blogs, websites, social media and print media, especially books. I do still hope you read books.
Yet, there is power in the spoken word as well. Through personal conversation, sermons, and podcasts. And praying out loud.
Which do you prefer? Writing the words or speaking the words?
I recently read a powerful thought from Love Where You Live: How to Live sent in the Place You Call Home. The author says in Chapter 24 in the section Strategic Prayers,
“Say His Name. Jesus. Try it. Say it out loud. I realize someone will probably hear you. This one name, this one word can release all the power in heaven. Prayer is not restricted to the table or always accompanied by Bible reading. It goes with you throughout the day.”
There is power in the spoken word. Even just one word. I’ve put this into practice in recent days when I did not know what else to pray. I spoke His name over people and problems. There is unexplainable power and peace when you speak that one name. Try it.
How do you find power and peace in spoken words?
WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD
“And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.” Eph 6:18-20
“The Lord came and stood there, calling as at the other times, “Samuel! Samuel!” Then Samuel said, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” 1 Samuel 3:10
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.” Eph. 4:15
“For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.” Psalm 33:9
“Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.” Mark 4:39

A very personal account of a woman’s experience seeking to see the unseen people at home and abroad. I appreciated the structure which provided stories not only in a short and easily digestible way but the questions encouraging self reflection and connection to the life of the reader. A quick read which I put down feeling encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and do more to share my light with others.
I had a marvelous time in the Atlanta area meeting some amazing people and sharing about Unseen People. I would love to speak at your upcoming event! Let’s talk about it! Contact me for more info: deannalynnsanders@gmail.com or reply to this email.

A FINAL GOOD WORD
Sometimes the questions are: When do I speak and when do I be quiet and listen? Sometimes it is best to speak the words, to express yourself plainly and be heard. To bring words of hope, healing and help. Sometimes, it is best to wait. To listen. To hear from God first before you respond. That’s my encouragement to all of us this week — speak and listen all with the goal of bringing God’s light and life to a broken people in a desperate world.
Thank you for reading these words. I’m deeply honored to share this time with you each week.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: “Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you.” Jeremiah 30:2
Gratefully yours,
I would rather write words than speak them any day of the week. When I try to say them out loud, they just don't work right.
Sometimes, in overwhelming situations I've been in or I've prayed for regarding other people, I've done that - just said, "Jesus..." I wasn't able to figure out the words I needed to express my prayers. But He knew what I was trying to ask. Always does.
Such powerful words! Amen to that. Thank you for sharing, Patty.
