A Good Word Wednesday #120 ABUNDANCE ππ½π
A little bit of help, hope and goodness for you each Wednesday
βAnxiety in a manβs heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.β Proverbs 12:25
GOOD WORD OF THE DAY: Abundance
Welcome to November! Itβs one of my favorite months because it contains my favorite holiday. But as my thoughts turn to giving thanks, Iβm mindful of those with much less. Of those who live on $2 a day to feed their family. Of those who share one room or two with a family of eight. Of those unseen people who donβt have adequate shelter, food, clean water and warm clothing.
I try to not feel guilty when I return home from developing countries where Iβve served. I try to not make other people feel guilty about the overwhelming amount of stuff we have. I know that having stuff isnβt bad in itself, but in how we use it. I know this in my head. And I love my creature comforts as much as the next person. I love returning home to my bed, my recliner, my bathroom. Iβve learned through the years to be thankful for them.
We do have much. Iβm reminded of the cornucopia, better known as The Horn of Plenty. It is a hollow horn-shaped container filled with an abundance of something like fruit, flowers, grain, and nuts. It is an ancient symbol of boundless abundance.
I could show you a picture of my closet which overfloweth with shoes, bags, jackets, etc. I wonβt show you mainly because itβs ridiculous and embarrassing. Iβm not to the hoarding stage yet, but I have plenty. Enough shoes and clothes to last me until Jesus comes. I have a feeling, you have something you have an abundance of as well.
Being guilty about having plenty isnβt the answer. What is? What should we do about having so much stuff? How do you share your abundance?
WEDNESDAY IN THE WORD
βThe thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly.β John 10:10 NASB

βThis book reminds us that others do not live as comfortably as we do. It awakened me to the needs of other people in my hometown as well as people around the world. I highly recommend you go through this journey with DeAnna.β

GOOD WORDS I RECOMMEND
A Good Song. Zach Winter sings βGive Thanks.β βWatch the world change colors when you give thanksβ. Give Thanks
Another Good Song. This one you probably know, βGive Thanks With a Grateful Heart.β
And now let the weak say, βI am strongβ. Let the poor say, βI am rich.
Because of what the Lord has done for usβ Give Thanks With a Grateful Heart
A Good Book. Ann Voskamp says in her bestselling book, One Thousand Gifts,
βIt's only in the expression of gratitude for the life we already have, we discover the life we've always wantedβ¦a life we can take, give thanks for, and break for others.β
If you donβt own this book, treat yourself this season.
A FINAL GOOD WORD
This month, take time each day to write down three things you are thankful for β people, items you own, experiences youβve had β whatever you want. Jot them down in a journal or on the notes app on your phone. Then pray and thank God who gives such abundant gifts. By the end of the month, you will have so many things you are thankful for. Itβs always good to have a list like that available to be reminded whenever you have challenging, hard days. Iβm thankful/grateful today for my husband, my kids and grandkids, my home, my church. Whatβs on your list today?
Have a good week. See you next Wednesday.
Thank you for reading these words. Iβm deeply honored to share this time with you each week.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: βWrite in a book all the words I have spoken to you.β Jeremiah 30:2
Gratefully yours,
