A Good Word Wednesday #149 HEAR
A little bit of help, hope and goodness for you each Wednesday
We live in a noisy, chaotic world.
How much noise do you have in your daily life? Do you need noise in your ears when you are out for a walk? On vacation, sitting by the beach or gazing up at the grandeur of mountains, were you also listening to music, or a podcast, or texting photos of the beauty of nature to your family, friends or posting on social media? I used to be one of the people who liked music in my ears when I was on my daily walk so I could keep up my walking pace. Nothing wrong with that. But then, I realized, if I had nothing but quiet as I walked, I was more in tune with my natural surroundings, but more importantly, I was more in tune to hear the words of God. I was more in a frame of mind to walk and pray. When you are quiet, you hear God calling you because you are one of His.
In Unseen People, p. 25, I write: There is power and peace in hearing your name spoken by someone you know and love. Even sheep know this. They do not even need to be seen to know they are loved. They just need to hear their shepherd’s tender voice… I know that Voice! He knows my name.
“The distinctive mark of those who are Christ’s is that they hear His voice… The voice of Christ is distinctly audible to the soul.”
Charles Spurgeon, Day by Day through the Gospel of John, June 30th
When was the last time you heard God call your name? What happened?
Wednesday in the Word
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27
“How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!” However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” Romans 10:14-17
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” Matthew 11:15
“Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” Deuteronomy 6:4-5
Good Question(s) of the Week: Where do you most often hear God speak to you?
Good Words from Unseen People
From Unseen People, Did You Hear That?, pp. 49-50
Listen… Did you hear that? Nothing? Exactly….
Then, on an ordinary morning a few days ago, sitting in my comfy chair reading, drinking coffee, and contemplating life, I heard something. It was a whisper, but I heard it.
“It’s okay to spend some time with Me. It’s okay to be still.” Then it was quiet.

A FINAL GOOD WORD
You can know that in this noisy, crazy world, He is there with you. He knows your name and He calls out to you often. Have you heard Him yet today? This is my prayer for all of us this week — that we make time for silence, hear His voice and know that He loves us. Know that He sees you, knows you and asks you to follow Him into all the world.
Thank you for reading. Have a good week. See you back here next Wednesday.
Please share this Good Word with others!
Gratefully yours,
