Good Word of the Day: Stay
Wait. Full stop. Didn’t I say last week the good word was Go? Yes, yes it was. And now I’m saying Stay. Wait. Which is it? Go or Stay? Yes. Both. But how does that work?
A lot of us want to immediately go and do things. Immediately go into all the world and show God’s love to those who need to know Him. It’s a good thing to go. Jesus tells us to do that. It’s been my mantra to go. You can stay if you want and do all the things at home and I will go.
But sometimes, God says wait. He says to stay and be still. Jesus told his disciples to wait. Pause a moment and read Luke 24:47-49. I have it printed for you below. Go ahead. I will wait. …
What were the disciples to do? Stay in the city. Wait for the presence of the Spirit.
Sounds easy enough. Just sit. Wait. Sit some more. Wait….. and wait some more.
Lately, I’ve found myself waiting for…
…my pre-published book to move from the editing phase and cover design phase to the final publication phase. (Check the Unseen Book process updates here: The Unseen book birth process. I just added #11 in the process this week.)
…my second grandson to be born. Still have several more weeks of waiting for that blessed event to occur.
…friends to receive a hopeful diagnosis from doctors… for surgeries to have a successful outcome… for miraculous healings.
What are you waiting for these days? Why are you forced to stay and be still? What do you do while you wait? I’d love to know.
Wednesday in the Word
“And repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Luke 24:47-49
But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; They shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 ESV.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

And now, He stopped all that motion for me and allowed me again to be home. And to be still. I’m grateful to have gone and grateful to be home. I know my call to go into all the world and share the love of Christ hasn’t changed… just my location. And I’m grateful my computer desk chair is in its full and upright position and doesn’t need a seat belt.

Good Words I Recommend
A Good Podcast: Have you had a chance to listen to this podcast yet? I am shamelessly plugging my first appearance as a podcast guest. Catch it here: Faithfully Engaged Podcast. Please watch or listen and share it with others. One thing I’m doing while I wait for my book to be published is be a podcast guest on a variety of shows. I’ve completed two. I have another one scheduled to be recorded this Friday. And four more scheduled during August and September. I will let you know when they are available.

A Final Good Word
What are you waiting for? Why are you staying still and not on the move today?
Summer is the time many of us are going to all the places on our list. But sometimes, we get to stay home and be still. Whatever you are waiting for this summer and throughout your life, how you choose to wait tells a lot about your character.
Are you impatient and think or say unkind things about the slow person in front of you in the check out line?
Are you in a hurry just to get from Point A to Point B and don’t enjoy the journey along the way?
Are you always looking for something to do, some type of noise, to fill the quiet spaces in your days?
I can’t say that I know how to wait well. But I do find myself sometimes considering these wise words about staying and waiting,
Such as this one from T.S. Elliot: “Teach us to care and not to care. Teach us to sit still.”
Teach us, Lord, to stay… until you say go.
