Good Word of the Day: Laughter
What makes you laugh out loud?
Sarah laughed out loud when she was told she was having a baby at her ripe old age.
Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, “After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?” Genesis 18:11-12
He was 100 and she was 90. They named the baby Isaac which means “he laughs,” because they laughed when told the news they would be parents. I can’t even imagine.
Johnny and I have an eight-month-old grandson named Isaac. He makes me smile and laugh every time I’m around him. He brings great joy to our family.
We live in a day when life is so very serious with wars, earthquakes, tornados and floods. As well as political and cultural wars that can tear us apart as a nation, as a country, church and family. So laughter is good medicine that brings relief to depression, perspective on problems and joy in dark days.
Do you think Jesus laughed? I love this drawing of what he could have looked like if he was enjoying a joke with his disciples, or when he gathered the children around him, or when he shared stories about needles and camels Matthew 19:24.
What brings you joy and makes you laugh out loud on ordinary days?
How can we bring more laughter to our lives right now?
Smile more. It’s the beginning of laughing out loud.
Consider the blessings you have. That will make you smile.
Be around people who make you laugh.
Make time for fun activities.
Wednesday in the Word

Good Unseen People
The following excerpt, from a story I wrote a few years ago, shares a moment that made me laugh.
Some of us have more stories to tell than others because of our age and experience. I’m reminded of a conversation with my oldest granddaughter, Leah, on a recent family trip to the Oklahoma City Zoo. When questioned why she made some bad choices, she explained that it was because of her “dark past.” I literally laughed out loud. Leah is seven. How much of a dark past could she possibly have?
Later that morning as we were watching the chimpanzees in their exhibit, one of them sat quietly and seemed to be pensively concentrating. I asked Leah, “What do you think he’s thinking about?”
She thought a second and said, “I don’t know.”
I replied, “He’s thinking about his dark past.” Leah’s turn to laugh out loud.

A Final Good Word
My Daddy always said my mother never saw anything funny. He was referring to her smiley eyes that shut when she laughed. And when you could see her eyes they had a mischievous twinkle. I’ve got those same smiley eyes. And I also immediately cry when I laugh.
My hope for you this week is that you find much joy. That you experience something that makes you smile every day. Enjoy the moments and feel free to laugh out loud and have a good belly laugh.
Thank you for reading these words. I’m deeply honored to share this time with you each week.

Gratefully yours,
Oh, this is my favorite of all of your blogs you've ever written!!! 😁 I LOVE to laugh!!! Larry and I are on vacation, and we have laughed so much on this trip. Of course, that's pretty much par for the course for use in our every day life. I think God gave us all the funny day to day things on purpose, and I think He watches just waiting, telling His angels, "Watch this... just wait, wait..." and then they all crack up laughing together at the same time we do down here at whatever it was He set in place or knew was going to happen. 😁🥰
Life is hard, we all need to laugh!
