Good Word of the Day: Celebrate
The month of May is a party waiting to happen. Mother’s Day. Proms. Graduations. From Kindergarten, to 5th grade, seniors in high school, college, masters and doctorate programs, every family seems to have someone graduating.
Of course, every Sunday is a celebration because we are remembering the resurrection of Jesus all over again. Lately, in my church we’ve celebrated everything mentioned above plus multiple baptisms, the Lord’s Supper and a baby dedication. There’s a lot going on during this season.
And always, there are birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, baby showers and all the holidays. And sometimes, it is celebrating a loved one’s life at their funeral. What have you been celebrating lately?
In the gospels, we see the first miracle of Jesus was performed at a celebration — a wedding (John 2:7-10). Clearly, the Bible is full of celebrations. What are some of your favorites?
Wednesday in the Word
Praise the Lord! Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens!
Praise him for his mighty deeds;
praise him according to his excellent greatness! ….Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord! (Psalm 150:1,6)This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24
And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate. Luke 15:23-24

Good Unseen People
The following excerpt is from a blog I wrote on a recent birthday:
So, a few years ago, when I turned 60, I decided to designate it as my birthday week, not just a day. It seemed like a momentous occasion turning that age so I thought, why not celebrate all week? If there is no stopping the turning of the calendar pages, why not embrace it?

A Final Good Word
My oldest granddaughter graduates from 5th grade this week. I’m not sure how she got old enough to do this already. I wrote this a few years ago:
So seize the moments.
Take a lot of photos and cry and remember when you dropped them off at kindergarten for the first day. Soon you will be dropping them off for their college freshman year. It’s ok. You can cry a little. And take a few moments to celebrate yourself as a parent. It was you who drove them to school all those years. It was you who made sure their Monday folders were complete and it was you who sat in parking lots waiting for the school bell to ring or waiting for soccer practice to be over for another day. It’s ok. Celebrate the moments.

Thank you for reading these words. I’m deeply honored to share this time with you each week.
“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: ‘Write in a book all the words I have spoken to you. Jeremiah 30:2
Gratefully yours,
My favorite Biblical celebration is, 100% by far, the birth of Jesus. Christmas! I don't think it gets any more exciting than that. I especially love the part about the shepherds. I can't imagine the giddy excitement they must have felt in between the time they saw the multitude of heavenly hosts and when they actually arrived to see Jesus. I bet they were grinning, running, giggling, hooping and hollering, all kinds of stuff! 😀
Oh, goodness, 5th grade graduation? I remember when she was just a bump in her mama's belly 🥹 I love celebrating graduations. Its exciting. Its sad to see kids grow up, but its exciting at the same time to see them go off in new directions they're excited about. Big adventures! Our nephew's graduating high school this year and we're celebrating him this Friday. And, in August, he'll start college a short 30 minutes from our house, so I'm extra excited 😆
