A Good Word Wednesday #104 Book πππ
A little bit of help, hope and goodness for you each Wednesday
βAnxiety in a manβs heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.β Proverbs 12:25
Good Word of the Day: Book
This came in the mail yesterday:
And I thought of this:
Such a mix of emotions holding my book in my hands for the first time. Happy. Proud. Scared. Will people like it? Did I do a good job? So many emotions. It truly is a dream come true. My sister, Debbie, summarized it well. βIt must be like holding many hours of work, travel, tears, laughter and prayers all at once.β Yes. Exactly.
What have you created that brings you joy and a mixed bag of emotions? Why do you think it makes us feel this way?
My love for words on a page began in the lap of my mother who read me Dr. Suess books over and over again. But I gleaned my love for Godβs Word from my preacher Daddy. The best-selling book in the world of all time, the Bible, was always prominent in our home. I grew up with a respect for it. I have been the proud owner of a King James Version Bible, a Living Bible, a New American Standard Bible, a New International Bible and mostly use the English Standard Version today. Whatβs your favorite version? Through the years, I grew to believe that scripture wasnβt just words on a page, but that they were active, alive and used as a tool to help believers grow in their faith.
I grew up in the day of Bible drills. If you arenβt familiar, itβs when children learn the books of the Bible and are able to locate them as fast as they can to beat the other children in the group. It was a memorization competition and it helped me learn the order, the importance and the wisdom of the 66 books contained in the one book. To this day, I still enjoy the pages of a printed Bible over the electronic versions on our phones.
Wednesday in the Word
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 ESV

Good Unseen People
Another book shaped my life and led me to discover a new calling that led me around the world multiple times. I wrote the following for Stories for Global Good and posted it a few years ago:
I read the other stories quickly as it told stories of forgotten girls around the world. And I knew I had to do something.

A Final Good Word
For the last four years, Iβve been involved in what my church calls D-Groups. The βDβ means Discipleship. D-Groups are groups of 3-5 people who go deep into Godβs Word. Itβs not just reading, itβs a deep dive into understanding scripture, memorizing, applying it to life, scripture memory, accountability and prayer. When you read one chapter from the Old Testament and one from the New five days a week, it means you read through the New Testament once a year and and it takes over four years to complete the Old Testament. So, guess what? Next week we officially complete reading and studying through the Old Testament. It means weβve waded through books like Leviticus and Ezekiel and all the doom and gloom prophets. And what weβve discovered is that each book has its challenges and distinct message to the original readers and to us today. But I think we all deserve a celebration when we finish Malachi next week. And thenβ¦ meanwhileβ¦ back to Genesis!
What is your favorite way to study the most important book in the world?
Thank you for reading these words. Iβm deeply honored to share this time with you each week.
This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says: βWrite in a book all the words I have spoken to you.β Jeremiah 30:2
Gratefully yours,
