A Good Word Wednesday-Creator and the Created
#41 - A little bit of goodness in your mailbox today -- 🌳🏞️☀️
Word of the Day - Creator
I had never met a witch before. But there she was at her open front door.
My college friend and I were only 19 years old from a small university in Arkansas. We found ourselves that spring break week in the Denver, Colorado suburbs. Our assignment from our campus mission team was to go door-to-door and simply ask where people attended church. We were gathering information to give to local church leaders to help them reach out and develop relationships.
This is how it worked. My friend, Julie, and I would take turns. One would ask the questions and the other one would write the responses on the cards. It was my first visit to Colorado. I could see the majestic Rocky mountains jutting up in the distance. I couldn’t wait to get into the mountains later in the week and really enjoy the Colorado experience.
It was my turn to write the responses from the homeowners. Julie rang the doorbell then stepped back and waited. We knew many people wouldn’t be home that morning. But this time, a woman opened the door. Julie gave our normal introductory statement and a few other basic info gathering questions. Then she asked, “Would you tell us please what church you and your family attend?”
The somewhat normal looking middle-aged woman smiled and said, “I’m a witch. I am a member of the local coven.” All I remember in that moment is printing in large letters on the card, “Is a W-I-T-C-H.” We tried not to be shocked. But can you imagine? Two innocent teenagers from small town Arkansas with very little life experience standing at the door of a self-proclaimed witch. What do you do with this information? We discovered later that there was a large satanic following in the area. That would surprise none of us today, but all those years ago, when we expected people to say, we go to the Catholic church, or Methodist church, or no church. But a witch coven?
Later, as I debriefed from that encounter, I thought, “How in the world can you be a witch and not believe in God when you see His majestic, marvelous creation every day? It is literally right there out your west window. Who do you think created that?”
I still think that today. As you know, I love sitting quietly on my deck and absorbing the chirping of hummingbirds and songs of the cardinals. Soaking in the sunshine and enjoying the vibrant colors of my flowers and shades of green of our many trees.
I have no doubt where these originated — from the hands of God, the Creator. You only have to look at the first chapter of Genesis and know that in the beginning, creation was set in motion. No question for me that this is how the world began and continues — in the hands of our Creator.
It’s springtime now. My favorite season (other than severe weather and allergies). I have some questions for you below in Share Your Good Word.
Wednesday in the Word
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” John 1:1-3
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.” Colossians 1:16

A Final Word
Seriously, how can you not feel the cool morning air, breath it in deeply, close your eyes and hear the songs of nearby birds and not know they have a marvelous Creator? How can you not stand on the beach of a vast ocean or climb the trail of a rugged mountain and not know who created it? How can you look into the innocent eyes of your children and not be amazed at the wonder of this magnificent gift? Why should we be so arrogant or ungrateful not to acknowledge that we are only created because the greatest of Creators designed us?
Amazing. Take time this week to thank the Father of all creation. Be humbled. Be amazed. Be thankful.
Thank you for reading my words. And if you would, please share a good word with someone today. Forward this on to invite others into our Good Word community.
Gratefully yours,
Thank you, Emily. That’s lots of good solid thoughts in there. God is so good to give us such beautiful creative gifts like flowers and birds to enjoy. It makes me sad for those who don’t know the Creator like we do.
Agree on both counts! But pretty flowers makes everything seem better. 😊🌸
